Paes & Damm advance

London: Leander Paes and his Czech partner Martin Damm were in superb form as they outplayed Cyril Suk and Robin Vik of the Czech Republic 6-2, 6-1, 7-6(1) to storm into the quarterfinals of the men's doubles event of the 120th Wimbledon championships on Monday.

In the women's doubles event, Sania Mirza, playing in the company of Michaella Krajicek of the Netherlands, went down 4-6, 2-6 to Elena Dementieva and Flavia Pennetta in the second round.

In the boys' singles championship, India's Jeevan Neduncheziyan and Rupesh Roy lost in the first round. Neduncheziyan battled back to take the second set from Ed Corrie of Great Britain before losing 0-6, 7-6, 6-1 while Roy bowed to Andrei Martin of the Slovakia 2-6, 5-7.
