Body swap again at OGH mortuary

Staff Reporter

Autopsy done on accident victim's body mistaking it to be that of a guard

  • Just four days ago, a swap of bodies created a flutter
  • After packing the body the morgue staff handed it over to relatives of another person

HYDERABAD: Body swap for a second time in Osmania General Hospital mortuary! The OGH forensic doctors on Monday performed autopsy of a road accident victim's body mistaking it for the body of a security guard who died in suspicious circumstances.

It was only when the relatives of the watchman Munna Prasad, who was working at Telugu film star Chiranjeevi's house, noticed the swap did the doctors and mortuary workers realise the mistake.

Just four days ago, a swap of bodies - one belonging to an alleged kidnapper shot dead by the police and another of a road accident victim - created a flutter at the same morgue.

Thirty-seven-year-old Prasad was on duty at the film star's house in Jubilee Hills. He suddenly developed complications while walking past the gate around 5.30 a.m. on Sunday.

    Bleeding injury

The guard fell down with his face downwards and hit a concrete structure on the ground suffering a bleeding injury on the head. He was rushed to a nearby corporate hospital but the doctors declared him brought dead saying that he had either suffered a heart stroke or had a history of epilepsy.

The same day, a Registered Medical Practitioner K. Srinivas, 22, died when an oncoming Qualis vehicle hit the motorcycle he was riding near Gudur gate in Kandukur police station area. Both the bodies were shifted to the OGH morgue.

On Monday morning, when forensic doctor Ravinder Kumar called the Jubilee Hills police constable and asked about the guard's body, the policeman pointed to the body of the RMP kept in a corner. Believing the constable, the doctor conducted the post-mortem.

After packing the body, the morgue staff handed over it to Prasad's relatives who were shocked to see a different face on removing the cloth. When asked, the constable said he was confused. With the recent body swap still fresh in memory, the doctors didn't want to take a chance. Later, they performed autopsy of the guard's body only after his relatives confirmed the identity.
