HYDERABAD: To enter the Veera and Metro Express city buses, female passengers have to literally sweat it out through the single door - that too after paying a higher fare in the hope of a scuffle-free journey. But it will now be a thing of past, as the City Region of the APSRTC, following feedback from its passengers, especially women, has decided to transform the single-door buses into two-door ones. According to the City Regional Manager, C. Panduranga Murthy the decision was taken after many female passengers complained that they were inconvenienced by male footboard travellers in single-door buses. Though there were no written complaints it was decided to take up the work, he said.
The stats
All the 1,451 ordinary buses have two exits. However, all the 100 Veera buses have only one door. There are 454 Metro buses and the 141 new ones too have just one door. "Work has already begun and 41 Metro Express buses now have two-doors," said the Regional Manager. It is also learnt that the 14 Metroliner Buses would be very soon converted into Veera buses with two doors in the near future.
