BANGALORE: From October 2, you will not have to pay the extra local taxes for the medicine you buy. The Union Government's recent decision to make prices of medicines uniform all over the nation will mean that the maximum retail price of the medicine (inclusive of all taxes) will be printed on it. "This is a boon to the consumers as well as the retailers as consumers will have to pay the exact rate that is printed on the medicine," secretary of Bangalore City Chemists and Druggists Association Ravindra Kumar M.J. said.
Demand
Addressing presspersons here on Monday, Mr. Ravindra Kumar said the association welcomed the Union Government's decision. "It is a mission accomplished for the members of the All India Organisation of Chemists and Druggists who have been demanding that the Government make prices of medicines uniform. Medicine is the only commodity in the country which is being sold without MRP - inclusive of all taxes," he said.
`Confusion will end'
Pointing out that till now retailers of medicine had to take up the laborious process of calculating the local taxes extra on the retail price of any medicine, association president Y. Bramham said there would be no room for confusion and suspicion in the minds of consumers over the price of medicine. The members have thanked the Union Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizers Ram Vilas Paswan for his efforts to ensure that the prices of medicine were uniform all over the country, he added.
