BANGALORE: The Government on Monday notified and gazetted the intake for the first year medical and dental courses for 2006-07 and also published the seat matrix and fee structure. The seats are notified against the Government quota in private unaided professional institutions. In the medical stream, the Government has notified 450 seats in its four colleges. Of the 1995 seats available in 15 private medical colleges, there are 997 government seats and 998 for the managements. The three religious and five linguistic minority medical colleges together have 320 government seats and 480 management seats. Both the Kasturba Medical Colleges in Mangalore and Manipal have 92 seats for the Government and 408 under the management quota. In the dental course, the only one government dental college has 60 seats. The 26 private dental colleges have 1,600 seats of which the Government and managements would share 800 each. The three religious and nine linguistic minority dental colleges have a total intake of 840 seats. Of this, the government gets 336 seats and the managements 504 seats. The notification also contains the final fee structure for both medical and dental colleges. The fee for medical and dental courses in government colleges is Rs. 16,700 and Rs. 14,400 respectively. For private unaided institutions (non-minority) the fee is Rs. 42,500 for medical course and Rs, 32,500 for the dental course for the first 35 per cent of seats and Rs. 2.97 lakh for medical and Rs. 2.37 lakh for dental for the next 15 per cent of seats.
