Though he has stepped out of mayoral robes, the former Kozhikode Mayor Thottathil Raveendran is engaged in social work in the Chakkorathukulam ward. This was evident when he, along with Deputy Mayor P.T. Abdul Latheef, who now represents the ward, mobilised workers and residents to clear stagnant water at several places on East Hill Road on Sunday. However, after torrential rains in the last couple of days, the 1.5-km road was again flooded. Construction of concrete pavements in front of houses, lack of proper drains and non-maintenance of the road have led to water logging, Mr. Raveendran said. He is all praise for the efforts being made by Mayor M. Bhaskaran to refurbish the image of the civic body, which has taken a beating because of a dispute at Njelianparamba dumping yard. It was during the tenure of Mr. Raveendran that door-to-door collection of garbage was introduced as part of the multi-crore Model Solid Waste Management programme in the State.
