Mathew T. Thomas
What is in a name, you might well ask. Everything, the young Transport Minister, Mathew T. Thomas, will tell you. And, when the name goes with posh looks and comforts that do not jell with the proletarian image of the Left Democratic Front, which he represents, he will as well say it is sacrilegious. The Minister had a shock when the Ambassador car given by the Government for his official use developed a snag and was replaced with a sleek, expensive Octavia car recently. "No such luxury for me," he told the car allotting officials. "The people in my constituency are used to seeing me ride a scooter." But allotting a scooter was just not on. And, till another Ambassador comes his way, he will have to put up with the discomfiture of travelling in the foreign car.
