Probe sought against officials for `creating documents'

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: The nominated member Y.S.V. Datta urged the Government in the Legislative Council on Tuesday to institute criminal cases and also order a judicial inquiry against those officials responsible for "creating documents in violation of court directions" pertaining to the Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor project.

Continuing the discussion on the BMIC project, which he initiated on Monday, Mr. Datta traced the history of the project from before 1995.

He cited from certain legal papers, official minutes and speeches made by members in the two Houses of the legislature.

Following protests from Opposition members, he withdrew certain references made to the late J.H. Patel, former Chief Minister, and R.V. Deshpande, who was the Minister for Industries in the Patel government and also in the S.M. Krishna government.

At one point he even defended Mr. Deshpande, quoting an important objection raised by him on sanctioning land that did not come under the purview of the alignment of the proposed expressway. He alleged that there were reports that some original maps on road alignment were not available with either the Government or the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board.

He urged the Government to take measures to unearth many confidential documents relating to certain clauses in relation to the basic framework agreement with Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprise, the chief promoter of the BMIC project.

To a suggestion made by V.R. Sudarshan (Congress) that the Government should order a CBI inquiry into the issue, Mr. Datta said that he would be happy if the Government entrusted the case to the CBI voluntarily.
