Relief for farmers

The Prime Minister's announcement of relief measures for the distressed farmers of Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, and Karnataka is welcome. Although the respite has come after a spate of suicides, it is better late than never. One hopes the implementation will be swift and certain.

The Prime Minister's visit to Vidharbha re-affirms the readers' faith in newspapers as an effective medium of social activism. This is heartening especially at a time when sensible journalism has almost been hijacked by sensationalism.
