Zizou, as the people of France affectionately call Zinedine Zidane, deserves to be part of football's trinity alongside legendary footballers Pele and Maradona (editorial "Football could have a trinity," July 4). His return to football almost a year after announcing international retirement to help France secure a place in the World Cup raised eyebrows. But Zidane proved his critics wrong when France beat Brazil in the quarterfinal. The Zizou magic held football aficionados spellbound.

* * * The exit of Brazil from the World Cup has shattered the prayers of many, particularly West Bengal fans. Its defeat by a straight goal was unthinkable and a total surprise.
