PONDICHERRY: The strike in Neyveli Lignite Corporation is unlikely to affect the average Pondicherrian, but industries could suffer a marginal cut, an official said on Tuesday. "There will not be any blackout in Pondicherry and Karaikal regions," Power Secretary A.C. Verma told The Hindu . NLC supplies a third of Pondicherry's power and the strike could restrict the supply to the industries. The rest of the power comes from other Central agencies, such as the National Thermal Power Corporation, Madras Atomic Power Station and Kaiga Atomic Power Station. Pondicherry, home to 7 lakh people, does not overdraw its share from the grids, said a top Electricity Department official on condition of anonymity. If the situation warrants, Pondicherry can draw more current from the grid and end the restriction to industries, he said.
