No deviation from CMP: Ambika Soni

Special Correspondent

KOLKATA: The Government was not deviating from the Common Minimum Programme by disinvestment in National Aluminium Company and Neyveli Lignite Corporation, Union Minister for Tourism Ambika Soni said on Tuesday.

Ms. Soni, who was talking to presspersons, pointed out that these companies were not "navaratna" companies.

Asked about the Left parties' decision to launch a weeklong agitation from July 13 protesting the Government's "failure" to check price rise and against its disinvestment policy, she said, "Whatever is being done is in accordance with the CMP."

The disinvestment decision came up for discussion at the recent meeting of the Congress Working Committee, Ms. Soni, a member of the committee, said.

"The Finance Minister was very categorical that everything would be done as per the CMP, which says there should be no disinvestment in 'navaratna' companies."
