BIJAPUR: A flood alert has been sounded along the Krishna and its tributaries following heavy rain in the Western Ghats. Inflow at the Alamatti Dam, which was 66,818 cusecs on Monday, increased to 90,770 cusecs on Tuesday. The water level stood at 515.77 metres as against the full reservoir level of 519.6 metres. Gross storage was 62 tmcft. Executive Engineer of Alamatti Dam Division Gopalkrishna Gupta told The Hindu that it had been decided to open some crest gates on Wednesday. The discharge would be around 50,000 cusecs. The decision came following the forecast given by the Central Water Commission that the inflow would cross 1.55 lakh cusecs by Wednesday.
