Belgaum: Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Basavaraj Horatti has promised activists of the Kannada Rakshana Vedike that three more Kannada-medium schools will be opened in the border areas of the district. This was in response to the demand by the activists, who staged a black flag demonstration when the Minister entered the premises of the Deputy Director of Public Instruction here on Monday. The Minister said the interests of Kannadigas living in border areas would be protected. The vedike protested against the "neglect" of Kannada-medium schools and demanded that at least seven more schools be opened in the villages bordering Maharashtra. They sought additional funds for the development of Kannada-medium schools in border areas, particularly in Belgaum district. The Minister directed the officials to initiate action against unauthorised schools in the district.
