Begin sowing operations; sufficient seed stocked in distribution centres

WAIT IS OVER: A farmer ploughing land near Narsapur of Medak district

Sangareddy: Rain finally arrived in Medak district kick-starting farm related activity. The showers brought cheer to farmers who had been waiting to sow maize and cotton. With the delay in the onset of monsoon only 30 per cent of the expected area of 2.97 lakh acres of arable land has been taken up for cultivation.

Not uniform

While rain has been widespread in Sangareddy, Patancheru, Ramachandrapuram and Gajwel mandals, Medak, Andole, Siddipet, Chinnakoduru and Dubbaka areas received only drizzles. According to the Joint director of Agriculture Loka Reddy the farmers have started the sowing process. However, this rain would not be sufficient to sow kharif rice.

Bright spots

Looking at the brighter side, the district administrationwhich otherwise was contemplating contingency action plans has kept ready sufficient fertilizer and seed to speed up the process. Medak district has 36,820 quintals of subsidy seed for distribution for kharif season.

Around 7124 quintals of maize seed are stocked at the seed distribution centres and market yards in Sangareddy, Ramayampet, Narsapur, Zaheerabad, Kohir, Sadasivapet, Jogipet, Gajwel, Narayankhed, Hatnoora, Siddipet, Thoguta, Nangunooor, Kondapak, Medak, Gajwel, Shankarampet, Dubbaka, Doultabd and Mirdoddi.

Around 20,828 metric tonnes of essential fertilizers including the NPK 20:20:20, Urea and DAP have been stored and are ready for distribution. The district also has plans to sell fertilizers through self-help groups.
