Sivasankari, Nabeela in lead

TIRUCHI: P. Sivasankari of Tiruvallur and Nabeela Farheen of Chennai were the joint leaders with 4.5 points each at the end of the fifth round of the 34th State women's chess championship here on Tuesday.

Seeds have it easy

Top seed C. Madan Mohan and second seed R. Shajeev entered the semifinals of the boys' U-12 singles event in the Dr. E.M. Abdullah memorial State-ranking tennis tournament organised by the National Academy Montessori Matriculation HSS and Ramanathapuram District Tennis Association in Ramanathapuram on Tuesday.

The results: Boys: U-12 (quarterfinals): C. Madan Mohan bt V. Arun Gokul 6-0, 6-1; Deepak bt Vishnu J.J. Sree 6-2, 6-2; C. Sanjay Mohan bt Roshan 6-4, 6-2; R. Shanjaul bt Digvijay Pandian 6-0, 6-0. Khadar wins a double

Khadar of Friends Recreation Club clinched a double by winning the men's singles and doubles titles in the Virudhunagar district carrom tournament at A.J. Indoor Stadium in Sivakasi on Sunday. Khadar won the singles title after his opponent C. Rajamani of Tawker Sports Club gave a walkover. In the doubles final, he teamed up with Mydheen to defeat Zahir Hussian and Rajagopal of UYCA, Sivakasi 25-11, 25-7.

Earlier, Mahalakshmi of R.R. Nagar won the women's title by defeating Seetha of Ramco Nagar 25-9, 25-8.

Tamil Nadu teams

The following players will represent Tamil Nadu in the National beach volleyball championship, to be held at Hyderabad from July 5 to 8:

The teams: Men: Saravanan, Jayadev, Sivarajan and Md. Thouffic. Women: L. Kamakotti, Jayashree, R. Christy Roselin and Hemamalini. Manager: M. Prabakaran (TNEB).

Tirunagar Rainbow wins

Tirunagar Rainbow Cricket Club chalked out a 42-run victory over Supersonic Concord Cricket Club in a Madurai District Cricket Association Second Division League match in Madurai.

The Scores (Second Division): Tirunagar Rainbow CC 162 for eight in 28 overs (Vijay Kandasamy 59) bt Supersonic Concord CC 120 in 20 overs (Aby four for 17); Canara Bank RC 102 in 26 overs bt Babu Cricket Academy 96 in 22.3 overs; Stalwarts CC 148 for five in 28 overs bt Crescent CC 135 in 26.1 overs (Muthukumar 43); Third Division: Modern Golden Star 155 for seven in 25 overs (M. Nagaraj 65) bt Tirunagar 131 for six in 25 overs (Suresh 57).
