NIZAMABAD: The ruling party, Congress, has shown its upper hand even in the Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituencies by winning 246 out of 527 seats for which elections were held in the district. The election for Anksapur MPTC has been countermanded by the State Election Commission as the seat was auctioned. Election for this MPTC will be conducted later. Telugu Desam Party secured 207 MPTCs, Telangana Rashtra Samiti 43, Bharatiya Janata Party 3 and others 29. Counting of votes passed off peacefully on Tuesday with foolproof arrangements made by the district administration. Police made elaborate bandobust by diverting traffic at the venues for counting -- Government Polytechnic College for Boys and Vijay Rural Engineering College. A large number of people braving continuous rain awaited election results outside the venues.
