Conversion: court hears writ petition by jail inmates
Legal Correspondent
HYDERABAD:
A Division Bench of the Andhra Pradesh High Court on Tuesday expressed serious concern at the allegation made by inmates of Central Jail, Kadapa, that officers of the Jail Department were forcing them to convert to Christianity.
The Bench was dealing with a petition wherein letters written by Sanjeev Raidu and Manohar Naidu were treated as writ petition. The complainants had named Vara Prakash, jailor, Samuel Jhonson, DIG Prisons, Rayalaseema range, as the two officers who were forcing inmates to convert.
The Bench had called for a report from the District Judge. After perusing the report it felt that an inquiry by Principal Secretary, Home Department was necessary.
