BANGALORE: The allocation for organic farming has been increased from Rs. 2 crore last year to Rs. 8 crore this year, and there are plans to have allot land in each taluk, Agriculture Minister Bandeppa Kashampur said in the Legislative Council on Tuesday. He told M.P. Nadagouda (Janata Dal-United) that the zero-cost cultivation concept had been considered in organic farming initiatives, apart from which several schemes had been launched to help farmers choose the best scheme. Mr. Kashempur said irregularities had come to light in watershed development projects, and 41 officials had been placed under suspension. A sum of Rs. 7.8 lakh misappropriated in 20 cases had been recovered, he added. Rural Water Supply and Sugar Minister S.A. Ravidranath told Aravind Limbavali (Bharatiya Janata Party) that Rs. 8.5 crore had been released from the Calamity Relief Fund to supply drinking water in tankers in Bijapur, Belgaum, Raichur and Gadag districts.
Land at Tirumala
Muzrai Minister B. Nagaraj Shetty told Srikante Gowda (Janata Dal-Secular) that the seven acres of land at Tirumala, where the Karnataka Government's choultry was located, had not been taken over by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams.
