Commemoration and seminar

KOLLAM: The fifth death anniversary of news photographer Victor George will be observed by the Kollam Press Club on Sunday. Actor and photographer N.L. Balakrishnan will deliver the commemorative address at the meeting to be held at the Press Club hall at 11 a.m. A seminar on `The problems of society and journalism' will be inaugurated by journalist B.R.P. SHRC sitting

KOLLAM: State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) member A. Lakshmikutty will hold two sittings in Kollam on July 11 and 21. The sitting on July 11 will be held at the District Cooperative Bank mini-auditorium and on July 21 at the Rest House here. — Staff Reporter

KGCA district meet

PATHANAMTHITTA: The annual district meet of the Kerala Government Contractors Association (KGCA) will be held at Thiruvalla on July 8. Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, association district president Thomaskutty Thevarumuriyil and secretary M.P. Ramachandran Nair said that Transport Minister Mathew T. KGOU meet

ALAPPUZHA: The Alappuzha district level workers' meeting of the Kerala Gazetted Officers' Union would be held at Alappuzha Raiban Tourist Home on July 7 at 3 p.m., union district president P. Pushparajan said. State office bearers of the KGOU would also participate in the meeting. — Staff Reporter

Valuation camps suspended

KOTTAYAM: The ongoing centralised valuation camps would remain suspended from July 5th evening to July 9 and would reopen only on July 10, according to a press note issued here on Tuesday. The suspension of the camps has been necessitated by the elections to MG University Senate. The teachers should report at their respective colleges and University employees at the University office on July 6 and 7, the press note said. — Staff Reporter

RSS stages protest march

KOCHI: Activists of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) held a protest march in the city against the arrest of Valsan Thillankeri, Kannur Vibhag Prachar Pramukh, in connection with a murder case. BJP leader A.N. Radhakrishnan and Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh State deputy general secretary Dorairaj addressed the march, which started from Jose Junction. The CPI(M)-led Government had come to power with he help of Muslim extremist groups like the NDF. The RSS protest was against the violation of democratic norms by the LDF Government, Mr. Radhakrishnan said. — Staff Reporter

Demand to set up Pay Commission

KOZHIKODE: The Kozhikode district unit of the Central Government Pensioners' Association, Kerala, has demanded the immediate appointment of the Sixth Pay Commission. The general body meeting of the association held here on Tuesday criticised the delay in the appointment of the commission. As many as 16 members of the district unit will participate in the dharna to be held in front of the office of the Chief Post Master General in Thiruvananthapuram on July 11 to seek the setting up of the commission. — Staff Reporter

Protest against IMA move

MANJERI: The State Manushyavakasha Prathikarana Vedi has protested against the alleged move of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) to prescribe the medicines of only a few companies. In a release here on Tuesday, the Vedi said that the IMA circular asking its members to prescribe the medicines of certain companies amounted to a breach of medical ethics. — Staff Reporter
