Rain in Hassan; holiday for educational institutions

Electric poles and trees uprooted, power supply affected in many areas

    HASSAN: The district has been receiving incessant rainfall for the past three days.

    While Sakleshpur, Alur and Belur taluks are receiving heavy rainfall, it is moderate in Hassan, Arsikere, Holenarsipur, Channarayapatna and Arkalgud taluks.

    Highest rainfall

    Hosur village in Sakleshpur taluk recorded the highest rainfall of 164 mm on Monday.

    Heavy rain that lashed Alur taluk on Monday has disrupted life in the area and three petty shops were damaged, when a tree fell on them.

    Power supply was disrupted as a few electric poles and trees got uprooted, according to reports reaching here.

    Cauvery in spate

    Cauvery is in spate in Ramanathpura following heavy rain in Kodagu. In view of heavy rain, the district administration has declared a holiday for educational institutions in Alur and Sakleshpur for three days and educational institutions in Hassan taluk for two days from Tuesday.

    Inflow into the Hemavathi, Yagachi and Vatehole reservoirs has increased with heavy rainfall in catchment areas. The inflow into the Hemavathi reservoir was 32,000 cusecs as against 12,547 cusecs during the corresponding period last year.

    Water level in the Hemavathi stood at 2,903 ft. as against 2,881.16 ft during the corresponding period last year.

    Storage levels

    The maximum level is 2,922 ft. The storage was 22.23 tmcft as against 10.13tmcft during the corresponding period last year.

    The water level in Yagachi reservoir touched 964.35 m as against 961.05 m during the corresponding period last year and the maximum level is 964.60 m. The storage was 3.40 tmcft. The water level in Vatehole reservoir was at 961.05 m, as against the maximum level of 966.05 m., and the inflow was 821 cusecs.

    The storage was 0.649 tmcft, according to sources in Yagachi Dam Division.

    Maranahalli-160 mm, Shukravarasante-130 mm, Hanbal-125 mm, Arehalli-88.6 mm, Bikkodu-74.4 mm, K.Hoskote-68.8 mm, Gendehalli-60.4 mm, Sakleshpur-58 mm, Mallipatna-38.8 mm, Belagodu-35 mm, Ballupet-26 mm, Salagame-24.6 mm, Doddabemmatti-20.4 mm.
