BELLARY: M. Diwakar Babu, former Minister and Congress leader, came down heavily on the Janata Dal (S)-BJP coalition government for not appointing an administrator to the Bellary City Municipal Corporation even after the term of the elected body had expired. Speaking to presspersons here on Tuesday, Mr. Babu accused the BJP of misusing its power by ensuring that an administrator was not appointed in Bellary Corporation while the process was completed in other civic bodies. "This clearly indicates that the BJP wants to stick to power," he said. The term of the elected body, which is headed by the BJP, expired on June 12, 2006. However, the body continues to be in charge of administration. He said that he would lead a delegation to submit a representation to the Governor if the State Government did not appoint an administrator to the Bellary Municipal Corporation within 10 days. When pointed out that several Congress leaders, including corporators, in the city were joining the BJP, Mr. Babu said that it would in no way affect the party. He said that the party was strong and was ready to face elections. On the proposed increase in power tariff, Mr. Babu said that it was unwarranted and described it as anti-people. He has urged the Government to drop the move.
