HYDERABAD: A jubilant Telugu Desam president N. Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday described the verdict in the local bodies elections as a fitting reply to indiscriminate use of liquor, money and muscle power by the ruling party. "People have responded properly to the machinations of the Congress. Telugu Desam's victory is creditable as the cadre has fought against all odds. It has come despite the ruling party using devious methods even misusing police to win the elections by hook or crook," he said in his reaction to the outcome of elections. He admitted that the response from the people was "more than what we have expected." Addressing a press conference, Mr. Naidu said the verdict showed that dissatisfaction had set in among people. Right from the beginning the Congress had been claiming that TDP's vote share would not cross 10 per cent and that it was not in a position to win a single Zilla Parishad. "People proved them wrong and we and our allies have already bagged three ZPs and we will win two or three more." Avoiding a direct response to his party doing in Telangana region, he said it did equally well in other regions too. "We have been focussing on development of backward districts and it has paid off. It is a lesson to the Congress, TRS and BJP which have been playing opportunistic politics invoking separate Telangana when it is convenient for them and forgetting it later." He said the alliance with CPI (M) would continue and joint efforts would be made for formation of a national alternative to Congress and BJP. The party would review its performance in all the districts with special emphasis on those where the party fared badly like Guntur and Prakasam.
