Staff Reporter
KHAMMAM: If the leads are any indication, the tussle between the two fronts - the CPI(M) - TDP combine and the Congress-I backed by the CPI will see a close finish in Khammam. The Congress was leading in 17 of the 46 ZPTCs while CPI was leading in four. The TRS which contested in one ZPTC (Bayyaram) with the support of the Congress is likely to bag the seat. The CPI(M) nominees are in lead in 15 ZPTCs while its ally, the TDP was all set to bag seven ZPTCs. The CPI (ML New Democracy) which had so far been maintaining equal distance from the Congress and the CPI(M) -TDP combine, is likely to win two ZPTCs. The TDP candidates had won the Vararamachandrapuram and Velerpadu ZPTCs, while they were leading in Wajeedu, Kunavaram, Jurpadu and Errupalem. The New Democracy candidate is leading in Gundala.
