Centre gives nod to new CA curriculum

CHENNAI:
The Centre gave its nod for the new four-year curriculum for the chartered accountancy course and notified it on June 17. The final approval is expected by August and the first Common Proficiency Test (CPT), which will be on an objective basis, has been tentatively fixed for November 12, 2006, president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, T. N. Manoharan, said on Monday.
At a press meet here, he said the first two-hour session in the CPT would be for 100 marks covering accountancy and Mercantile Law and the second session of the same duration would cover Economics and Quantitative Techniques. At present, the examination was being held in 170 centres in 93 cities and towns and two foreign centres, Dubai and Kathmandu.
