Child run over by tanker

Staff Reporter

CHENNAI: A five-year-old boy died after being run over by a tanker lorry at Manali on Monday.

Police identified him as R. Balaji, the son of a juice vendor in the area.

Police said the child had accompanied a relative who took him to a shop on Nedunchezhian Salai around 8.30 p.m. when the accident occurred.

The child was caught under the right front wheel of the vehicle and died on the spot.

The truck driver, fearing mob fury, jumped out of the vehicle and fled the scene.

Police seized the vehicle and further investigation is on.
