MANGALORE: Two children on their way to a government school at Kanyadi in Belthangady taluk suffered head injuries when a tourist vehicle hit them at Kanyadi on the Ujire-Dharmasthala Road on Tuesday. The police gave the names of those injured as Purandara (9) and Santhosh, children of Srinivas from Dharmasthala. They were admitted to a hospital here for treatment. The Belthangady police, who have registered a case on a complaint from Venkataramana Rao, a local grocer, said the children, who were in a critical condition, had been admitted to the intensive care unit of the hospital. Their condition was said to be stable. The police have detained Dattatreya Choudhury, driver of the Kolhapur-based tourist vehicle. Investigations are on.
Chain snatched
A youth reportedly snatched a "dalapathi" chain estimated at Rs. 7,000 and belonging to Jenita D'Cunha at Konaje under Konaje police station limits near here on Monday evening. The police said Ms. D'Cunha was walking home from work when the incident took place. The Konaje are investigating.
