MANGALORE: Banks in Dakshina Kannada have crossed the turnover of Rs. 12,306 crore as on March 2006. While the deposits have touched Rs. 7,610 crore, advances accounted for Rs. 4,696 crore, according to data provided by District Consultative Committee and District Level Review Committee for banking in the district. The committees met at the zilla panchayat hall here recently to take stock of the progress in the district. There has been a growth of 12 per cent in deposits in 2005-06. While the deposits as on March 31 were Rs. 6,815.13 crore, this increased to Rs. 7,610 crore in 2005-06. The share of urban centres in deposits was Rs. 5,372.76 crore (70 per cent). The share of rural centres was Rs. 1,173.50 crore (16 per cent) and semi-urban centres Rs. 1,063.74 crore (14 per cent). Urban centres excelled in advances with lending of Rs. 3,286.96 crore (70 per cent). Even the credit deposit ratio of the banks in the district had increased from 53 per cent as on March 31, 2005 to 62 per cent as on March 31, 2006.
