PROTEST: Legal heirs of Chennai Port Trust employees who died in harness stage a demonstration on Tuesday demanding the ban on employment be lifted.
CHENNAI: A demonstration was staged here on Tuesday to demand jobs on compassionate grounds for the next of kin of Chennai Port Trust employees who died in harness and those who have become invalid. The protestors also demanded that the Centre and the Union Ministry of Shipping should lift the ban on appointment immediately. The organisers said 750 kin of former employees were awaiting appointment on compassionate grounds. Communist Party of India State secretary D. Pandian led the protest near the port trust office.
