VIZIANAGARAM: As the floodwaters receded in several villages, people who were shifted to relief camps, visited their homes on Tuesday to assess the extent of damage caused by the swirling waters of Nagavali. Naviri, the village on the left bank of the river, was the worst hit. A number of cattle and birds were washed away in addition to paddy and other belongings. P. Parvathamma, a resident of the village, was seen wailing inconsolably as her hut, one among many in the village, collapsed and she lost valuables in the floodwaters. There was a common complaint from residents of Naviri and Basangi that the officials ignored their demand for relief and rehabilitation package. The villages would get affected when the Thotapalli project is completed. An official estimate on the damage is awaited.
