Murder: search on for culprits

Staff Reporter

Coimbatore: Special teams of the Coimbatore City Police have launched a manhunt for a seven-member gang suspected to be involved in the abduction and murder of Selvakumar, an auto-consultant.

On July 3, Maheswari (22), wife of Selvakumar (27), filed a complaint with the city police. She said her husband who had left the house on July 2 morning had not returned and that his cellphone had been switched off. The Saravanampatty police had initially registered a case of missing.

She also feared a threat to her husband's life at the hands of a gang involved in abducting people for ransom. She also hinted that her husband had enemies and named a few persons in her complaint. Meanwhile, the Coimbatore Rural Police brought a body to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital. The body was recovered from a bush at Kedimedu in Gomangalam area near Pollachi.

The deceased was subsequently identified as Selvakumar. The police said that the body bore injuries similar to bullet wounds. They are waiting for the post-mortem report. The city police sources said they had some vital clues and suspected a person and his associates. They were hopeful of a breakthrough in the case within the next two to three days.
