Water board asked to prepare master plan

Integrated water, sewerage facilities for all areas within the ORR radius, including the twin cities, surrounding municipalities and a few gram panchayats

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy has directed the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) to prepare a master plan to have integrated water and sewerage sectors for all areas coming within the radius of the proposed Outer Ring Road, including the twin cities, surrounding municipalities and a few gram panchayats.

He also agreed to sanction Rs.40 crores for taking up sewerage network works in and around the Hi-Tec City, duly tying up the funds from agencies concerned, including the APIIC, HUDA and Serilingampally Municipality.

Reviewing the performance of HMWSSB, with senior officials of the Municipal Administration and Urban Development Department and Water Board managing director K.S. Jawahar Reddy among others here on Tuesday, Dr. Reddy also wanted the existing Sewerage Master Plan for the core city of Hyderabad to be updated immediately.

Appreciating the progress of works on the second phase of the Krishna Water project,the Chief Minister told the officials to complete the project and ensure that the water reached the city by mid-October. He also asked them to sort out the land-related issues in connection with construction of the sewage treatment plants at Nallacheruvu and Attapur as part of the Musi Project.

Godavari water for city

Dr. Reddy later approved a proposal to appoint Water and Power Consultancy Services (WAPCOS) as a consultant to prepare a detailed feasibility study of tapping water from the Godavari to the twin cities from Devadula project.

Expressing satisfaction over the pilot initiative for 24x7 water supply in the Adikmet section of the city, Dr. Reddy instructed HMWSSB officials to launch the programme by mid-August. He also wanted the project to be extended to other parts of the city expeditiously.

Similarly, he gave the green signal for the monthly billing system and outsourcing plan to be introduced from August this year on the lines of APCPDCL.

Among other matters, the Chief Minister asked officials to take necessary steps with regard to the safety issue over manhole covers and to be vigilant with regard to water quality in the wake of the monsoon.
