THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Power supply to many areas in the city, which was disrupted following strong winds and heavy rain on Sunday night, was yet to be restored on Tuesday. In almost all the areas, this is the longest power failure in recent times. According to officials at the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) control room power supply in the 11 kV network was normalised by 10 a.m. on Tuesday. However, the inability of the KSEB personnel to speedily repair snapped power lines or provide `loop supply' in many areas affected the power supply in a good portion of the city. The worst affected areas include Sreekariyam, Kuravankonam, Pappanamcode, Poonthura, Beemappally, Vellayamabalam and Vattiyoorkkavu. According to the KSEB officials at the Board's TCMS facility, a major problem was the repeated failure of power even in areas where the supply was restored on Tuesday morning.
Mobile squads
The KSEB has seven mobile squads to tackle such situations in its 21 sections in the city. Each squad comprises four personnel who are supported in maintenance activities by the staff in each section.
