Twenty houses destroyed on Tuesday

Thiruvananthapuram: Twenty houses were destroyed and another 208 damaged in the heavy rain and wind that lashed the district on Tuesday. District Collector N. Ayyappan said several houses in the coastal area of Beemapally were damaged in the tidal action. The district administration has estimated that the loss suffered is to the tune of Rs.12 lakhs. In Neyyattinkara, 17 houses were destroyed and 84 damaged, while in Chirayankeezh, two houses were destroyed and 17 damaged. In Nedumangad, the figures are two and 92 and in Thiruvananthapuram taluk the numbers are two and 15. — Staff Reporter

Man held

Thiruvananthapuram: The Emigration authorities at the Thiruvananthapuram International Airport here arrested a 45-year-old man on the charge of attempting to travel to Saudi Arabia using fake travel documents. The accused, Selvamani Selvaraj, was handed over to the Valiathura Police. He was later produced before the magistrate court on the charge of violating the Passport Act and remanded to 14 days in judicial custody. — Staff Reporter

Thiruvananthapuram: Education Minister M.A. Baby on Monday presented financial aid (Rs.10,000) of the State Government to music director and singer Bombay S. Kamal.
