Four arrested in housing scam

NEW DELHI: Four persons, including a builder and an architect, have been arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for their alleged involvement in fraudulent revival of the Janpriya Cooperative Group Housing Society (CGHS) using forged documents.

According to the CBI officials, in the Janpriya CGHS scam case, two of the accused, Sumit Jain and F.M. Jauhri, had already been named in the FIR. Mr. Jain is a builder, while Mr. Jauhri is an architect by profession. Further investigations revealed that the Society's founding secretary P.K. Ray and present secretary Neeraj Kant Kansal were also involved in the scam, following which they too were arrested.

The CBI found out that the accused prepared forged affidavits to accommodate their family members in the Society, prepared false resignation letters of original members and forged documents to get the defunct Society revived. They allegedly submitted a list of fake members to the Registrar of Co-operative Societies for submission to DDA for allotment of land.

Held on charges of auto-theft

NEW DELHI: A 22-year-old man has been arrested by the South-West Delhi police on charges of his involvement in auto-theft cases. The police have seized six stolen motorcycles at his instance.

The accused, Naimuddin, was arrested by the Special Staff when he was riding a stolen motorcycle. During interrogation, he allegedly identified his accomplices as Sunil and Shankar. While a hunt has been launched for them, the police are trying to recover the other vehicles stolen by them.

Two alleged thieves arrested

NEW DELHI: Two alleged thieves were arrested by the Special Staff of the North Delhi police on Monday. The police claim to have seized stolen articles worth Rs. 4 lakhs from them.

The accused, Manoj and Sameer, were arrested at a park near Mori Gate while they were disposing of stolen articles. During interrogation, they allegedly disclosed that they used to commit crime along with their accomplices, Geda and Kishan. At their instance, the police have recovered 13 cartons containing computer hardware including monitors, mouse and computer speakers, and 14 cartons of taillight assembly of tractors.

Three held, firearm recovered

NEW DELHI: Three alleged robbers were arrested by the North Delhi police on Monday. The police claim to have recovered a country-made firearm from their possession.

Acting on a tip-off that a criminal named Nishant and his accomplices would come to Idgah Park to commit dacoity in a shop, the police laid a trap and arrested him along with two of his accomplices, identified as Amit Sharma and Ravi Vikal. The two other gang members managed to escape. A hunt has been launched for them.

Man drowns in Najafgarh

NEW DELHI: A 21-year-old man drowned in a pond in North West Delhi on Tuesday morning.

Police said Puneet had gone for a swim in the pond in Najafgarh's Jharonda Kalan area at about 11.05 a.m.. He was rushed to the hospital by some people where he was declared brought dead.
