dated July 6, 1956: Rosewall in final

Staging a brilliant recovery after being 2-5 in the final set, second-seeded K.R. Rosewall of Australia reached the men's singles final in the All-England Lawn Tennis Championships at Wimbledon on July 4, beating V. Seixas of the US. It will be Rosewall's second appearance in three years in the final. The Australian outlasted the 1953 champion in a thrilling Centre Court struggle. Rosewall won 6-3, 3-6, 6-8, 6-3, 7-5. The 32-year-old American led 5-2 in the final set and was within three points of the match in the ninth game, but Rosewall rallied splendidly to win 7-5. The marathon encounter was spread over four and a quarter hours.
