THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan has described C. Pinto, the doctor-writer who died owing to Motor Neuron Disease last year, as a "dynamic social activist" whose life could be an inspiration for others. He was speaking here after releasing Pinto's last novel Bhagavanoor Parayannathu at a function organised to pay tribute to the departed soul. According to the organisers, it was Pinto's desire to get the novel released by Mr. Achuthanandan. However, before he could fulfil the wish his disease got the better of him. The solemn function organised at the Museum auditorium was attended his wife, Betsy Mani, children, Anasuya and Annapoorna and his friends who always stood by him in the vicissitudes of life. Mr. Achuthanandan, who made a brief speech, hailed the book as a testimony to Pinto's enviable literary skills. V. Sivankutty, MLA, who presided over the function, recalled Pinto's days as an activist of the Students Federation of India and how he defiantly faced the lathi blows rained by the police by remaining firm on his convictions and principles. Pinto's novel Bhagavanoor Parayannuthu was dictated to his wife Betsy. The novel is autobiographical in content and narrates his experiences as a doctor in a government clinic in Bharathanoor. The book also talks about some of the little known revolutionary leaders of Bharathanoor.
