17 girls from Meghalaya enrol in school run by J.S.S. Mahavidyapeetha

MYSORE: From the far north-eastern region of the country to the southern part, interest in education has brought 17 children from Meghalaya to the remote Suttur village near Mysore.

The free school run by the J.S.S. Mahavidyapeetha at Suttur is now home for these 17 girls from Meghalaya, and in their pursuit of education they have decided to come far away from home. To ensure continuity in education for these children who hail from the region that has limited educational infrastructure, Seva Bharathi, a non-governmental organisation brought these girls from Meghalaya.

A press release from the J.S.S Mahavidyapeetha said the girls had been admitted to classes from second to seventh standards, and free boarding and lodging facilities had been provided to them.

It said that the students had started learning Kannada and English in the free school that would enable them to interact and study well.

Besides the free school at Suttur, Seva Bharathi had brought hundreds of children from Meghalaya to help them pursue studies. They have been left under the care of several philanthropic institutions run by Sri Adichunchanagiri Math, Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Trust, NITTE and others.
