NEW DELHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation will file the charge sheet against the former BJP president Bangaru Laxman in the Tehelka case in the next few days, highly placed sources told The Hindu on Wednesday. Two of his former aides could also be named accused in the bribery case. Mr. Laxman was caught on camera accepting a wad of notes, amounting to Rs. 1 lakh, and putting the currency in a drawer in his office desk. The Tehelka tapes were telecast on March 13, 2001 and following this he resigned his post. The sources said Mr. Laxman reportedly told the investigators that he received the money from a Tehelka reporter, who posed as an arms dealer, for party funds. He, however, rejected Tehelka's allegation that he demanded more payments in foreign currency. On December 6, 2004 the CBI registered five cases, including one naming Mr. Laxman and his personal staff members N. Uma Maheshwari Raju alias Raju Venkatesh and Satyamurthy, under Section 120-B of the IPC and provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
