Ban on sugar exports notified

NEW DELHI: The Union Government has banned export of sugar till March 31, 2007. The ban would, however, not be applicable to sugar exports on preferential quota to the U.S. and the European Union, according to a notification issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade. Sugar exports to the U.S. and the EU would be permitted only through the Indian Sugar Exim Corporation Ltd up to a quantitative ceiling notified by DGFT, it said.
