VIZIANAGARAM: The Congress has won 24 ZPTCs, the TDP nine and the CPI (M) one in the elections to 34 ZPTCs in the district. Notable among those who lost to the Congress in the keenly contested elections were: the TDP District Committee president S.V. Ch. Appala Naidu, former MLAs P. Suryanarayana from Nellimarla and Nimmaka Jayaraj from Jiyyammavalasa. The sitting ZP Chairperson B. Jhansi Lakshmi, wife of Minister for Marketing B. Satyanarayana, who won from Gurla ZPTC, is likely to become ZP Chairperson for the second time. Of the 546 MPTCs, the Congress won 308, TDP 211, CPI(M) 9 and others 18. While the Congress has a clear majority for electing 20 mandal parishad presidents, the TDP has only 10. In the remaining four mandals, both the parties shared the 14 MPTCs equally in Vepada Mandal.
