Big drop in number of BPL families in Goa

PANAJI: Following adoption of new yardsticks by the Planning Commission for identifying people below poverty line (BPL), Goa has witnessed a big drop in the number of BPL families. As per the Census of 2002, the State had identified 7000 BPL families as against 18000 families in the previous Census. According to the sources in the Rural Development Agency, the number has come down further to 6300 as per the latest enumeration.
