MANGLED REMAINS : The van that met with an accident at Varakkalpattu in Cuddalore is being towed away.
PONDICHERRY: Five of the victims in the accident involving a van carrying school children and a private bus near Cuddalore have been admitted in two hospitals here and the condition of two is stated to be critical. The condition of a middle-aged woman, Suseela, admitted at General Hospital and a five-year-old girl, Ashwini, in Pondicherry Institute of Medical Science is critical, according to doctors there.
One shifted to Chennai
Earlier in the morning, another child was also brought to the General Hospital in a critical condition and later shifted to a hospital in Chennai. Dr. Govindarajan, Medical Superintendent of the General Hospital, said the 45-year-old woman has multiple injuries and is being monitored round the clock. On Ashwini, Dr Kalyan Singh, Medical Superintendent of Pondicherry Institute of Medical Science said, "She is unconscious. The CT scan of the brain revealed bleeding outside the coverage of the brain and she is on ventilator," he noted. The condition of the other three children, aged between five and eleven, is not serious and they are being treated at the orthopaedic and surgical ward for fractures of the collarbone and neck at Pondicherry Institute of Medical Science.
