New Delhi: At least 28 deaths were reported from Maharashtra in the past 24 hours as incessant rain, accompanied by strong winds, continued to batter Mumbai and its suburbs for the fifth consecutive day on Wednesday. Ten people lost their lives in the Nagpur division due to drowning and lightning. Nine deaths were reported from in and around Mumbai. Five deaths were reported from Jalgaon, and another four from the Amravati division. Relief and Rehabilitation Secretary K.S. Vatsa said that the Gagan Bavda and Radha Nagar areas of Kolhapur district received heavy rainfall. The Panchaganga river was flowing above the danger mark. The administration had despatched rescue teams and boats to the affected areas. In Gadchiroli district, communication links with five villages broke down as a result of flash floods. In Gujarat, heavy rain was reported from the Saurashtra region. Normal life in Rajkot was affected following heavy downpours, which caused water-logging at several places. A mother and daughter suffered burn injuries when lightning struck them at Sokhada village in Gondal taluka of Rajkot district. Light to moderate rainfall were reported from the Porbandar, Jamnagar and Junagadh districts. In Madhya Pradesh, three persons were washed away by floodwaters even as heavy rain disrupted normal life in the Khargone and Badwani districts. UNI
