Legislative Council was not informed of review petition, says H.K. Patil

BANGALORE:
Acting Chairman of the Legislative Council Sachidanand L. Khot has reserved his ruling on whether to allow a privilege motion against the Government for filing a review petition in the Supreme Court on the judgment on the Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor project without informing the Houses of the legislature.
Political decision
Making a preliminary submission on the privilege motion, Leader of the Opposition H.K. Patil on Tuesday argued that the filing of the review petition was a political decision. A decision had been taken during the session, and the Houses were not informed.
The Government's action had lowered the dignity of the House, he added.
Urging the Chair to withhold permission or the motion, Leader of the House D.H. Shankaramurthy contended that the Government submitted the review petition only after the House admitted the subject for discussion.
`Breach of trust'
V.S. Ugrappa (Congress) said the Government had taken the House for granted and committed "breach of trust".
Discussion allowed
Minister for Revenue Jagadish Shettar appealed to the Chair against allowing the motion as the House had allowed a discussion on the issue.
