BANGALORE: Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Basavaraj S. Horatti said in the Legislative Assembly on Wednesday that Anglo-Indian students would be eligible for fee reimbursement up to a maximum of Rs. 3,000 a year. He regretted that the Government reduced it to Rs. 1,000 last year, which had affected a large number of students.
No full reimbursement
Replying to Ivan Nigli (nominated) and Ramesh Kumar (Congress) during Question Hour, he said it would be difficult for the Government to grant full reimbursement of fees for the students from the community. The Government had looked into the demand and fixed reimbursement at Rs. 3,000 as there were many Anglo-Indian students in Bangalore, he added. Minister for Housing D.T. Jayakumar told Narendra Babu (Congress) that the Karnataka Housing Board had received a record number of nearly two lakh applications for sites in a layout at Suryanagar on the outskirts of Bangalore. Under a Rs. 140-crore housing scheme, apartments and sites would be allotted to all sections of society, he added.
Canal work
To a question from Vijayalakshmi Bandisidde Gowda (Janata Dal-Secular), Irrigation Minister K.S. Eshwarappa said the Government intended to improve a few canals in the Cauvery Basin, particularly the Veerija Canal in Srirangapatna taluk, Mandya district. The Government had called for reports, and work would be taken up based on the availability of funds, he added.
