NEW DELHI: The Delhi Government Standing Counsel on Wednesday submitted before the Delhi High Court that the Delhi police were not only probing lapses allegedly committed by investigating police officials but also their connivance in facilitating the acquittal of the accused in the Jessica Lal murder case.
The Standing Counsel, Mukta Gupta, informed a Division Bench of Justice Vijender Jain and Justice Kailash Gambhir that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) set up to go
She further submitted that SIT had registered another FIR against Chandigarh-based doctor J.S. Bedi for allegedly issuing a fake medical certificate to Vikas Gill, one of the accused in the case, who used it to take exemption from personal appearance in the trial of the case.
Ms. Gupta apprised the Court of the status of the on-going probe into lapses in the investigation of the case in response to a suo motu queries made to the Delhi police after acquittal of the accused in the case in February this year.
The Bench later transferred the matter to another Division Bench hearing the appeal
Then Additional Sessions Judge S.L. Bhayana had on February 21 this year acquitted all nine accused, including Siddharth Vashishtha alias Manu Sharma, in the case.
