BANGALORE: Kannada actor Jayamala, who claimed that she entered the sanctum sanctorum of Ayyappa temple at Sabarimala and had touched the deity, on Wednesday refused to make a statement before a team of officials from the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB), which had come here to record her statement on the issue. The TDB team, comprising Vigilance and Security Officer P.G. Ashok Kumar and Administrative Officer Balachandran met Bangalore Police Commissioner Neelam Achuta Rao and sought his help in recording Ms. Jayamala's statement. Subsequently, a police officer got in touch with Ms. Jayamala and informed her of the TDB team's visit. But, the actress told the officer that she would not make any statement before the team unless the TDB sent her an official communication in advance. Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Bipin Gopalakrishna told presspersons that Ms. Jayamala refused to meet the officials as she had not received prior written intimation from the TDB in this regard. She insisted that the TDB should inform her about the team's visit in advance and also explain the line of questioning and the scope of the statement she had to make. Following Ms. Jayamala's refusal to make a statement before them, the TDB officials decided to get back to the board authorities, Mr. Gopalakrishna said. As it was not a criminal case and only a temple enquiry, there was no binding on Ms. Jayamala that she should make a statement before the TDB team, Mr. Gopalakrishna said. The TDB officials, however, refused to speak to the media.
