Keen tussle for Medak ZP chairman's post

Staff Reporter

Sangareddy: Television reporter-turned politician Kranthi Kiran who won the Ramachandrapuram ZPTC for the Congress is playing his cards right for the Medak Zilla Parishad chairmanship. Kranthi Kiran has won the seat with a majority of 1,238 votes.

Even as Kranthi's name was making rounds for the Chairman post there were contenders from his own party in Gajwel and Zaheerabad, who have the backing of local legislators. However, the competition seems to be thinning out with the Congress diminishing to one ZPTC in Gajwel, the constituency of Minister for Tourism and Industries Geetha Reddy. Another contender A.Yadagiri a SC candidate of Congress lost to TDP candidate Tudum Prakash in Jagdevpur. \

TDP defeated Congress in four out of five ZPTCs in Geetha Reddy's constituency. A. Balayya who won the Tekmal ZPTC, Zaheerabad ZPTC elect Manikyamma and Bharathi of TRS in Sangareddy remained in the fray for the post.

However, the senior Congress leaders in the district opine that the chances for Zaheerabad, which is represented by Minister for Minority Welfare, might not be given another important post.
