`Biscuit bandits' use idli, vada

Staff Reporter

Gang members usually befriend the targets soon after identifying them. Then they offer idlis or vadas.

NELLORE: Offering cream biscuits laced with strong sedatives to cheat gullible railway passengers is passe. Gangs of `biscuit bandits, who hitherto used to offer biscuits and bananas besides tea and cool drinks to drug the targets, are now using idlis and vadas.

With the Railway Police taking up a massive awareness campaign on the modus operandi of the `biscuit bandits' by pasting warning bills at railway stations as well as compartments besides distributing pamphlets to passengers, instances of travellers falling prey to these gangs had come down drastically.

Against this backdrop, the gangs have started using alternatives such as idlis and vadas. According to Superintendent of Railway Police, Secunderabad and in-charge of Guntakal Railway Police District K. Venugopala Rao, members of these gangs usually befriend the targets soon after identifying them.
